POSITION OVERVIEW
KBR is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior AWS Cloud DevOps Engineer to join our team in delivering innovative and mission-critical cloud solutions to our customers. As part of a global leader in science, technology, and engineering solutions, you will support cloud infrastructure development, automation, and continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD) processes. This role provides an opportunity to collaborate with experienced engineers and advance your cloud expertise in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
This on-site position , based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, offers the opportunity to work closely with a highly skilled and diverse team, fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing and joint problem-solving. While this role primarily requires on-site collaboration, there may be opportunities for remote work as part of the employment package, though these cannot be guaranteed. RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the evaluation, implementation, and deployment of AWS cloud infrastructure solutions.
Assist in the development and maintenance of tools for provisioning, monitoring, auditing, and de-provisioning cloud infrastructure using automation tools.
Work closely with solution architects and engineers to implement secure, scalable, and cost-effective cloud solutions.
Maintain and optimize CI/CD pipelines using industry-standard tools like GitLab Runners.
Apply Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
Support the configuration and automation of cloud environments using tools like Ansible.
Troubleshoot and provide support for cloud-based applications in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
Contribute to documentation and process improvements to enhance system reliability and efficiency.
Identify and implement cloud cost optimization strategies, incorporating FinOps principles where applicable.
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Must have Three years of continuous residency in the U.S.
Technical Expertise:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field is required.
AWS Associate-level certification required (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Associate, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, or AWS Certified Developer – Associate).
Terraform Associate certification required
Minimum 6 years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, or related fields, with a focus on AWS technologies.
Hands-on experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and automation.
Strong understanding of AWS security, networking, and best practices.
Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or AWS CDK.
Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
Scripting proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation.
Experience implementing cost-effective, FinOps-aligned cloud solutions.
Collaboration and Problem-Solving:
Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, navigate ambiguity, and deliver high-quality results under pressure.
Communication and Documentation:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present recommendations to technical teams.
Strong technical documentation skills for designing and implementing cloud infrastructure.
PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
AWS Professional or Specialty certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Security – Specialty, AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional).
Familiarity with Agile methodologies and modern software engineering practices is a plus.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Three years of continuous residency in the U.S. for issuance of a Government Security credential
The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for government facility access and user account
Experience and/or Education in lieu of these qualifications will be reviewed for applicability to meet these requirements.
