Executive Director, Patient Care Services - ACU & ICU - University Health Retama Hospital

University Health Retama Campus

\n\n

University Health Retama Hospital will be located next to the Retama Park Horse Track in Selma off of Loop 1604 and Retama Parkway.

\n\n

This community hospital also includes a 24/7 emergency department, labor and delivery unit, radiology, laboratory, pharmacy, neonatal intensive care unit/nursery, and inpatient units for both adults and children. The hospital will open in 2026-27 with 166 beds and is designed to expand to 286 beds as this area continues to grow. To make it even more convenient for patients, a connected 100,000-square-foot medical office building will offer appointments for a wide range of medical and surgical specialists.

Position Summary

\n\n

Under the director of the Chief Nurse Officer, is responsible for the daily operations of 120 beds in between Intensive Care (ICU) and Ambulatory Care Units (ACU).

  • Maintains management responsibility and accountability for clinical practice of nursing for multiple units. 
  • \n\t
  • Manages programs and runs monthly Quality Assurance and Process Improvement (QAPI).
  • \n\t
  • Participates in regional and national management organizations, keeping well informed on issues affecting patient care services and giving visibility to University Health.
  • \n
\n\n

Education and Experience Requirements

\n\n
    \n\t
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing and current registration with the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas is required (Magnet). 
  • \n\t
  • Master’s Degree is required or enrollment in a master’s program.
  • \n\t
  • National certification (e.g. CCRN, RNC, CEN, CNOR, OCN, ANCC, CAN, CPAN, CFRN, etc.) in related field is required.
  • \n\t
  • Eight to ten years’ experience in nursing with at least two years in a supervisor or managerial position is preferred. 
  • \n\t
  • Experience in a community hospital preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

\n\n
    \n\t
  • Current license from the Board of Nurse Examiners of the State of Texas to practice as a registered nurse is required.
