Job Title: Step-On Tour Guide

Position Overview

The Step-On Tour Guide will join group tours aboard motorcoaches or other visitor transportation to deliver dynamic, accurate, and engaging narration about Montgomery’s downtown history, landmarks, and cultural heritage. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys public speaking, storytelling, and sharing local knowledge with diverse audiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide clear, engaging, and knowledgeable narration during step-on tours of Montgomery and surrounding areas.
• Communicate historical information, cultural context, and interpretive stories accurately and in an accessible manner.
• Greet and interact warmly with groups, ensuring a positive visitor experience from start to finish.
• Adapt content and delivery to various audience types (students, seniors, special-interest groups, general tourists).
• Coordinate with bus drivers, tour operators, and staff to ensure seamless tour flow.
• Answer visitor questions and provide recommendations for further exploration in the city.
• Uphold the mission, values, and interpretive standards of Oat Tours and the Landmarks Foundation.
• Maintain punctuality, professionalism, and enthusiasm throughout tours.
• Attend periodic training sessions to stay current on historical content and customer service practices.

Qualifications

• Strong public speaking and storytelling abilities.
• Friendly, outgoing personality with excellent customer service skills.
• Interest in Montgomery’s history, culture, and landmarks (formal training provided).
• Ability to memorize and effectively communicate tour scripts and historical facts.
• Reliable transportation to tour starting locations.
• Previous guiding or teaching experience is a plus, but not required.
• Ability to stand, speak, and engage for extended periods.

Work Schedule & Compensation

• Flexible, as-needed scheduling based on tour bookings.
• No weekends
• Compensation is comparable to substitute teachers.
• Training provided.
