Job Summary
System–wide position focusing on safe patient handling, employee safety in the workplace, patient safety and the us use of ergonomic principles. Makes recommendations, facilitates interventions, focuses on financial stewardship in use of resources and promotes procedures and practices which will impact employee safety, reduce injuries, foster retention and maintain safe work environment. Responsible for data interpretation and evaluation, budget development, education and adherence to OSHA standards. Primary contact for contractual education vendor for equipment tied to specific contract purchases. Performs Root Cause analysis of Pt. Handling Injuries. Collaborates with PHTS in decreasing workplace injury due to Pt. handling.Essential Functions

Performs assessments of patient handling tasks and ergonomic safe practices within the physical environment; specifically focused on reducing musculoskeletal injuries in employee population and promoting patient safety.
Develops training programs and participates in education of healthcare staff in principles of ergonomics using a variety of methodologies to meet learning styles, such as simulation, video, demonstration, observation, shadowing, etc. Problem solves unique challenges in patient care areas, working with staff to accommodate the needs of the patient, while protecting the staff from injury.
Provides education and consultation on use of ergonomic principles that impact safe patient handling and worker safety. Identifies behavioral characteristics, patterns and attitudes that impact compliance by all levels of staff and disciplines involved.
Aggregates and evaluates data related to patient handling and safety outcomes. Analyzes injury rates, financial impact of costs and estimate of return on investment, employee retention and employee satisfaction. Ensures that infection prevention standards are integrated with the use of patient lift and movement equipment. Pursues quality control of laundry process.
Collaborates with leadership to analyze impact of physical environment on retention and/or turnover of staff. Participates in redesign and evaluation of workplace environment related to prevention of injuries. Reports to campus presidents as needed to notify of ergonomic concerns and injury trends.
Collaborates with Employee Health in developing and implementing post hire testing for physically demanding jobs. Works with the vendor selected for performing this testing to prevent individuals from injuring themselves in a job for which they are not physically suited to perform.
Assesses use of resources and participates in budget development for appropriate equipment selection for the promotion of employee and patient safety. Works with vendors as liaison to maintain programs, evaluate products & equipment use monitoring.
Integrates products purchased by introducing them to the areas of use and demonstrating and educating Coaches in appropriate teaching and skill check–off via demonstration and return demonstration for assessment of competency.
Participates in collaboration with Safety, Nursing Process Improvement, Nursing Magnet Council, Research Council, and takes special concerns for presentation to Nursing Executive Council and other levels of Leadership.
Assesses compliance with use of safe patient handling equipment and procedures across Prisma Health campuses.
Performs other duties as assigned.

This is a non–management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.
Minimum Requirements
Education – Bachelor's degree in Nursing or RN with Bachelor's degree in Health, Physical Sciences, Human Factor Engineering, Rehabilitation, Occupational Health or related field of study. Master's degree preferred.
Experience – Three (3) years of experience in Hospital acute care, rehabilitation, occupational health or related experience. Ergonomic, t raining and/or education experience preferred
