Job Description

Ulster County BOCES is seeking a skilled IT professional with proven experience installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining workstations in a Windows Active Directory domain environment, as well as associated peripherals (e.g., printers & smart boards) to support School District IT Systems. Networking experience is required. iOS knowledge is a plus. Candidate must be a team player and demonstrate excellent communication, problem-solving, and follow-through skills, along with a genuine desire to provide exceptional user support. This position will be split between Ulster BOCES and its component districts. All Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations apply. Fingerprinting is required. Civil Service Classification: Competitive. Merit and fitness competitive examination applies. Salary is commensurate with experience and training. Salary range: $65,000 - $70,000. Work Schedule: Full-time; 12 months; Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Specific Duties: Troubleshoot and support Local/Wide Area Networks (LANs and WANs) and related projects; make recommendations for improvements. Assist in designing LANs and WANs, including smaller projects. Install LANs and WANs and related projects. Provide project management in cooperation with Supervisor. Maintain network integrity through coordination and implementation of equipment, software, troubleshooting, testing, and support. Provide systematic in-depth technical analysis to identify and isolate problems; refer and follow up as necessary. Ensure records of maintenance, support, and telecommunications services are accurate and current. Coordinate preventative maintenance and/or corrective programs with vendor service personnel. Maintain contact with the program service desk; check email and voicemail regularly, responding promptly. Collaborate with other BOCES or District technology staff. Support district and instructional staff to incorporate technology to enhance teaching and learning. Keep supervisor informed of issues and actions taken to improve service quality. Stay current on new equipment, software, and technologies. Work on specialized projects as assigned. Assist other team members as needed. Coordinate activities of Network Support Specialist I. Provide weekly written status reports to Supervisor. Minimum Qualifications: A. Graduation from a NYS-registered or regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree, including or supplemented by 15 credit hours in Computer Science, Data Processing, Information Systems, IT, MIS, Business, or a related field, plus three years of full-time paid or equivalent technical experience in a computer center environment. B. Graduation from a NYS-registered or regionally accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree, including 15 credit hours in a related field, plus five years of relevant technical experience. C. High school diploma or equivalency, plus seven years of technical experience in a computer center environment. D. An equivalent combination of training and experience. Special Requirements: Possession of a valid NYS driver's license or ability to meet transportation needs of the job.
