Work under minimal supervision with a high-level approval authority to handle complex technical issues and complex claims. Claim handling responsibilities include reviewing assigned claims, contacting insured and other parties, setting expectations for claim process, and documenting in claim system. Complete complex coverage analysis, identify policyholder benefits, create sub-claims if needed, investigate claim facts, determine payment eligibility, evaluate financial loss, approve payments, and refer claims to other units as necessary. Thoroughly document and close claims using assigned systems. Utilize strong negotiating skills. Handle complex claims involving settling Total Losses, inspecting vehicles, preparing damage estimates, managing Direct Repair Shops for compliance, determining cause of damage, establishing liability, identifying subrogation potential, monitoring repairs, approving car rental expenses, overseeing APD Litigation cases, managing litigation process including attorney and budget management, mediation participation, and settlement determination. Assist Claim Manager with file reviews and training. Position currently allows remote work from home for day-to-day operations with necessary travel to field locations. Requires valid State Driver's License, eligibility for State Adjuster's license within 90 days if required, and three years experience in claim negotiation, evidence evaluation, estimate preparation, subrogation, coverage resolution, statement taking, and claim resolution planning. Knowledge of Michigan Essential Insurance Act, Fair Trade Practices Act, subrogation procedures, intercompany arbitration, litigation handling, Negligence Law, No-Fault Law, and collision repair techniques required. Ability to handle claims per standards, follow policies, use claim systems and PC software, perform investigations, communicate effectively, provide customer service, analyze and solve problems, prioritize tasks, manage time, safely operate a vehicle for inspections, research subrogation laws, travel outside territory including overnight stays, and work evenings or weekends. Preferred qualifications include Associate degree or equivalent experience, Insurance Institute of America programs, CPCU coursework, I-Car ProLevel, CCC, and Xactware training. Work environment includes office or remote setting with travel to repair facilities, hospitals, and other locations with exposure to road hazards and temperature extremes.
