Position Overview :

Tiello is seeking an experienced and highly organized Commercial Painting Estimating Manager to lead and manage the estimating function for our luxury residential and commercial painting operations. This role is responsible for overseeing the complete estimating lifecycle—from take-offs and site evaluations through final proposal submission—while supervising two take-off specialists and ensuring accuracy, consistency, and efficiency across all estimates.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical estimating expertise with leadership skills, process management, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with operations and project management teams.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating Leadership & Management

• Lead and manage the estimating department, including direct supervision of two take-off specialists.
• Assign, review, and approve quantity take-offs and estimates to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to company standards.
• Develop and maintain estimating procedures, templates, and best practices to improve efficiency and consistency.
• Manage workload priorities and deadlines for multiple concurrent bids.

Estimating & Preconstruction

• Conduct on-site evaluations for luxury residential and commercial painting projects to assess scope, surface conditions, access, and preparation requirements.
• Prepare detailed, accurate estimates for labor, materials, equipment, specialty finishes, and project schedules.
• Review and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, addenda, and finish schedules.
• Utilize estimating software including On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Google Sheets, and Bluebeam or PlanSwift to produce reliable take-offs and pricing.
• Develop clear, professional proposals outlining scope of work, exclusions, pricing, and timelines.

Collaboration & Cost Control

• Work closely with project managers and operations leadership to ensure estimates align with production capabilities, labor assumptions, and profitability goals.
• Participate in turnover meetings to communicate project scope, risks, and assumptions
• Review completed job costs versus original estimates and implement pricing or process improvements as needed.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in painting estimating and/or project management, with commercial experience strongly preferred.
• Prior experience leading or mentoring estimating staff is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in OST, Google Sheets, and Bluebeam or PlanSwift
• Strong ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications.
• Excellent leadership, communication (written and verbal), and problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail with strong math and analytical abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
