ROLE AND PURPOSE: The role and purpose of the assistant athletic director is to work with the athletic director, district and campus administration, as well as the community to assist in coordinating the athletic program for the district. The assistant athletic director should play an integral role in the education and wellness of the whole student.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: - Bachelor of Education
- Master's Degree preferred
- NIAAA Certified Athletic Administrator preferred
Experience: - 3 years' experience of interscholastic, collegiate or professional athletics
- Head Coach / Campus Coordinator preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: I. PROGRAM PLANNING: - Assist the Director of Athletics in the overall planning and organizing for athletics
- Serves as the Arlington ISD Athletic Department Junior HS liaison to campus administration
- Provide insight and information regarding athletic issues and programming at all levels.
- Evaluates the athletic program to ensure that the program is responsive to the student's needs
- Make recommendations for improvement of the athletic program to the Director of Athletics
II. ATHLETIC EVENTS: - Plan necessary time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of athletic department goals
- Assist in preparing all interscholastic game schedules for all athletics
- Attend practices and games as appropriate to represent the department, assess administrative needs and support coach development
- Assist in organizing travel arrangements for all sports as assigned by the Athletic Director.
III. STUDENT MANAGEMENT: - Implement student management policies, communicate expected student behavior related to athletics, and ensure enforcement of student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences on vital issues with parents, students, teachers, and coaches
IV. POLICY, REPORTS AND LAW: - Implement policies established by federal law, state law, State Board of Education rules, UIL rules, and local board policy.
- Work with coaches to ensure that all students are compliant with UIL rules and eligibility
- Ensure that coaches are following AISD/ UIL rules and policies
V. BUDGET AND INVENTORY: - Assist in compiling budgets and program needs for the athletic program.
- Assist in maintaining a current inventory of athletic supplies and equipment and recommend disposal and replacement of equipment when necessary
- Ensure that athletic coaches are adhering to purchasing guidelines
VI. PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT: - Recruit, train, and supervise all athletic program personnel and make sound recommendations to the Director of Athletics about personnel placement, assignments, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
- Assist the Director of Athletics in developing training options and/or improvement plans for employees to ensure exemplary operation in the area of athletics.
- Disseminate pertinent information to coaches
VII. COMMUNITY RELATIONS: - Assist the Director of Athletics in developing a public relations program designed to keep patrons informed and interested in the programs and accomplishments of the athletic program.
- Assist the Director of Athletics with the promotion of athletic programs through community and media relationships, as well as looking for community partners to support our programs.
- Assist the Director of Athletics with the Booster Club relationships for all athletic teams.
